CALEA

Neither the AC adapter, Librem 5, nor the Liberty phone are required to comply with CALEA requirements.

CALEA applies to US-based telecommunications providers, not to Purism. If the user of a Librem phone uses a carrier in the US with a traditional “phone number”, that carrier must comply with CALEA for phone calls, as the phone call is sent over the carrier’s connection. Pure Matrix-to-Matrix calls are outside of CALEA requirements (Matrix nor Purism are telecommunications service providers). If the call touches the PSTN, it becomes the carrier’s responsibility to adhere to CALEA. Matrix is an encrypted VoIP/messaging protocol and not a telecommunications provider.

FTC

1. Based on the FTC’s definition of TAA compliance, the Librem 5 is not compliant as it is manufactured in PRC.

2. Based on the FTC’s definition of TAA compliance, the Liberty Phone is not compliant, as the device features “Made in USA Electronics” using global materials and is not entirely “Made in USA.”

UKCA

The government of Great Britain accepts CE markings as a declaration of UKCA compliance and has extended this indefinitely. The Librem 5 and Liberty Phone bear the appropriate markings to be sold in this market, although they do not explicitly display a UKCA marking.

UL
