Known limitations#
Apple iMessage / Google RCS de-registration#
Users with a phone number previously registered to iMessage or Google RCS must unregister the phone number from those services to message successfully with the Librem 5 or Liberty phone. This is sometimes difficult to diagnose and usually requires communicating out-of-band with friends using iPhones or Android devices once they realize their messages are not being received (or worse, going to someone else, which does happen).
De-register a phone number using these resources:
- iMessage
Scroll down to the section “No longer have your iPhone?” and follow the steps.
- Google RCS
Scroll down to the section “Without your previous device” and follow the steps.
“This call is not encrypted” message#
The message “This call is not encrypted” indicates that the call is operating in standard mode for regular phone calls. The same is true with most mainstream phones, but other phones do not notify the user of this limitation. A regular call on the Librem 5 is no less secure than a regular call on an Android phone or iPhone. We understand that this message can be confusing or alarming, and we are working to improve this user experience.
Call waiting#
The Librem 5 does not currently support call waiting.
