Screen recording

GNOME

The GNOME Desktop Environment features an integrated screen recording tool.

Note

Videos are recorded in .webm format, and saved to the Videos folder. This application does not currently support audio.

To record your desktop, simultaneously press the button combination Ctrl+Alt+Shift+r and the recording will start.

You will see the Red icon on in the upper right corner of the screen:

GNOME screen recording active

To stop a recording, just press the button combination Ctrl+Alt+Shift+r, and the red icon will disappear.

Adjusting the maximum duration of the videos

Videos made with GNOME screen recorder have a default maximum duration of 30 seconds, but this is configurable.

To adjust this parameter:

Open a terminal emulator and run the following command:

gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys max-screencast-length 60

This will increase the maximum duration to 60 seconds. If you want to increase to more just change the number (seconds) at the end of the previous command and run the command again.

For example, 1800 (seconds) corresponds to 30 minutes.
